Reset the code and program a remote for each vehicle.
Liftmaster garage door openers come with a remote for operating the door from a vehicle. A code is preset on the motor so the door operates the first time you use the remote. As a homeowner, you should reset the opener to prevent outsiders from opening the door with a remote that's set to a Liftmaster default code. A simple procedure allows you to reset the opener for one or more remotes.
Position a stepladder to access the rear of the garage door opener motor. Notice a row of small, numbered toggle switches on the back of the motor.
Program a different code by depressing the top or bottom of the toggle switches. Do not depress all tops or all bottoms of each because outsiders have remotes set for these codes. Alternate top and bottom in any sequence.
Hold the remote in one hand and press the "Learn" button on the motor near the toggle switches. The indicator light will illuminate.
Press and hold the button on the remote until the light bulb on the opener blinks, indicating the opener has been reset. If a bulb is not installed, listen for two clicks. To program another remote to the new code, simply press the "Learn" button, wait for the indicator light to illuminate, then hold the button on the remote until the opener light blinks or you hear two clicks.
